Is Spring Doing Too Much? When Your Inner Season Doesn’t Match the Calendar

The world around us is doing the most right now. It’s like the color saturation got turned all the way up.

Nature is in her Beltane phase. We are on the cusp of summer and the world around us is in full bloom, buzzing with life. This late-spring energy is all about expansion, creation and quick movement. If you’ve been feeling out of sync- slow, foggy, tender, or strangely emotional- you’re not alone and you’re not falling behind. You might simply be in a different season than the one outside your window.

The cycle of the seasons is only one of the cycles that impacts us, we also go through our own inner seasons. We’re taught to look outward — to track our pace by the world around us. But you have your own seasons, written in your human experience. And sometimes? They don’t match the calendar.

Outside influence might say “Go. Shine bigger. Be seen. Do more. Take up space."” but something inside might be whispering “Not yet.”

Let’s look at a few reasons why late spring can cause so much friction:

1. Energetic Whiplash

Spring asks us to shift from winter’s stillness into movement, growth, action. If you're still healing, integrating, or coming out of a quieter period of life, that energy might feel like a wave crashing over you. When your inner season is in a place of letting go or grieving, then spring’s push to grow and shine might clash with your body’s deeper needs.

And that’s okay.

2. The pressure to change

Spring carries this cultural messaging: start fresh, clear it out, rise and shine, be the best version of yourself now. But if your nervous system is working over time to get grounded, or if you're still digesting the quiet lessons of winter — all that “regenerative” hustle can feel forced.

You don’t need to bloom before your roots are ready. There is no rush.

3. You’re Still Integrating last season

Beltane season brings fire and momentum. The energy around us is heating up with social invites, plans, projects, expectations, pressure to be on. But just because the world is speeding up doesn’t mean your system is ready to match that pace.

For sensitive or introverted folks, this quickening can feel like being swept into a current you’re not quite ready to swim in.

4. Hormonal + Circadian Shifts

Longer days and more light can throw our systems off affecting sleep, hormones, mood. This change is ultimately for the better, but this transition can throw sensitive systems for a loop. When sleep patterns shift, moods go a little sideways. The boost of energy we get from more daylight hours, can translate to more work hours to cram in, making it so easy to overexert ourselves.

It’s okay to need more rest right now, even as the world speeds up. Your body is doing deep, invisible work, even if your mind wants to leap ahead.

5. You’re Cyclical, Not Linear

If you have a menstrual cycle, you move through a different internal season each week, just like the moon. One week you’re springy and creative (follicular), the next fiery and magnetic (ovulation), then turning inward like autumn (luteal), and then moving into stillness, rest, or release (menstruation/winter). When you begin to understand your own inner rhythm, you can finally stop expecting yourself to be the same person every day.

Inner seasons aren’t just tied to the menstrual or lunar cycles. Sometimes, we find ourselves in a deep internal winter after a loss, a breakup, a move, or during a season of burnout. Other times, we may be bursting into spring or summer after a period of clarity or creative renewal. These shifts aren’t always visible on the outside — but they are real, and they deserve to be honored.

What do we do when the world is speeding up, but our body says “slow down”?

We turn inward. We tune into our inner season. The one beneath the surface. Because when we name where we truly are, we can meet ourselves there with compassion instead of shame.

Let’s explore what these inner seasons might look like…
